The Annual Sagittarian Black & White Ball
Celebrating the Birthday of Simon Chandler
With Comedy Show & Dance!

The Annual Sagittarian Black & White Ball made it's first appearance in 2011 at Zero Degrees Bar in Reading, since then it's been held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel Reading, The Jazz Cafe Madejski Stadium and Reading University.

This event provide's our guests with some fantastic entertainment including Live Performances and Comedy Show's as well as a lovely Caribbean Cuisine being available and of course great music. 

 

Live Performances

Our DJs are fantastic - some of the very best DJs in the country, but you just can't replicate a live appearance from a brilliant artist.


The feeling of being there, in front of a live performer is a feeling that we want all of our guests to experience. We don't sell out arena's so all of our performers are there in an intimate environment for your enjoyment.


The Sagittarian Ball has seen Artists such as,


  • International Neo-Soul Artist - OMAR MBE! Singing hits such as "There's Nothing Like This" and collaborations with the likes of Caron Wheeler, Lamont Dozier and Stevie Wonder, Omar is a true ambassador for UK Soul.

  • The Queen of Lovers Rock - JANET KAY! Best known for her Lovers Rock hit 'Silly Games', Janet then went on to release a series of UK Lovers Rock singles including 'Lovin You' and 'Feel No Way'.

  • English Lovers Rock Artist - CARROLL THOMPSON! With early successes in the shape of lovers rock singles 'I'm So Sorry' and 'Simply In Love', which both topped the reggae chart in 1981.

  • UK Reggae & Lovers Rockers Sensation- PETER HUNNINGALE! Topped the UK Reggae Chart in 1987 with 'Be My Lady' followed by his debut album, 'In This Time'. A string of hits followed, including another UK Reggae number one with 'Ragamuffin Girl', a combination single recorded with Tippa Irie.

  • British Urban, UK Garage & RnB Singer - KELE LE ROC! Kele's widespread acclaim came from her underground hit, 'Let Me Know'. Kele Le Roc then went on to score two top ten hits in the UK Singles Chart with 'Little Bit Of Lovin' and 'My Love'.

  • UK R&B and Garage Sensation - SHOLA AMA! Her debut album Much Love entered the UK Charts at #6 selling over 1 million copies and scoring Shola the Top 5 singles 'You Might Need Somebody' and 'You're The One I Love' to name a few.

  • Reggae/ Roots Artist - AQUA LEVI! A very well-known face on the Reggae Scene and at music festivals up and down the country. Aqua Levi also has a large following within Europe.

  • The multi-talented Performer - JULIA TITUS! Apart from performing and writing her own songs and poetry, Julia is also apart of various bands that include, Blues, Steel Band, Lovers Rock and Reggae Band.

  • Singer/Songwriter - JAY JAY Born To Sing! With a natural ear for music, Jay Jay has a very different style of song delivery, he can offer a cutting reggae tone or a soft meaningful ability when singing. Jay Jay is a star in the making.

As well as luxurious surroundings, fantastic entertainment and great company, The Sagittarian Ball also offers an unbelievably good Caribbean style buffet.


Dolphin's Caribbean Catering, led by Randolph Bancroft provide the catering for The Sagittarian Ball.

 

Venue

 


With The Annual Sagittarian Ball being JOL's flagship event, it is imperative that we find the very best venue's for our guests.


Held on the weekend either before or after the 4th of December each year, this event attracts between 800-1000 guests, with up to half of these guests staying at the hotel overnight. The emphasis really is put on being an upmarket "ball" type event aimed at the over 30's. 


We supply 3 rooms with different music, each with a different genre.

  • Reggae Memories - Bringing you the very best in Reggae, Revival & Soca!

  • JOY! The Upfront Room - Playing the very best RnB, Soca, Basement!

This year 2017, we are embracing the music and culture of Africa, by adding a 4th room!
